Check out this hair! I am a true 4c type of natural chick, ya’ll. Basically, that means that I have a legit fro. My hair is super fun! It twists, braids, curls, stretches, shrinks, and on occasion, mohawks! My hair is delicate and always thirsty for moisture. It is unpredictable, unapologetic, and sometimes just downright frustrating, but guess what? After what has seemed like quite the long hair journey (from relaxers, to braid extensions, to the BC-Big Chop, to now), I can truly embrace this about my hair: It’s MINE and I LOVE IT!
Right now, my main goal with my hair is length. I’m ready to move on from this TWA (teeny weenie afro) phase and join the full-out mane club. But first, here's a picture journey of where my hair has come from. Here we go!
Here I am back somewhere around 2005 when I was entirely relaxed. This is about as long as my hair ever was with a relaxer. The beautiful curly woman I am with is the one and only Audra McDonald - my musical theatre role model!
I got sick of the chemicals and what they were and weren't doing for my hair. All of my girlfriends were going natural and loving it so despite the warnings from my hair stylist that going natural was a "fad" I started growing my natural hair out. While transitioning, I rocked braids.
Then, one day while in the hair salon, I got sick of waiting and I cut it off. Here I am in 2008 - short haired and curly after my big chop.
After a while of rocking the short fro, I tried new styles, including the whole and half weaves.
And that pretty much brings us to today. Except for the occasional ponytail....
....I pretty much just rock my natural tresses. I get bored easily so I am always looking for new styles. With the way that I like to switch it up, who knows what the future holds, but for now, I'm cool just being naturally me! Peace.
