Vain Birthday Photo Shoot
Hey loves!
So I celebrated my birthday on August 4th...actually, by celebrate I mean I was working all day in rehearsal and then doing two concerts. SO, I took a minute to do a totally vain photo shoot in my dressing room. lol. Enjoy! Shout-outs to being old... :) Just kidding, thank you Lord for another year. Truly blessed.

Frogs and Auditions
Hey gals!
Long time, no write. My bad. I was all caught up.
Let me give you the long and short of it.
I've found that dating and auditions have a lot in common. Basically, you put in a lot of effort and you get a lot of rejection. That wonderful guy I was talking about a few months ago? Well...Frog! Just "ribbit!" We dated for three months, he didn't want to commit, and then he decided to stop talking to me...completely. Three weeks later he tried to come back, apologize, and pick back up. Um, clearly not. I don't go for all that foolishness.
Next, I started talking to this wonderful man who I went to college with. He is literally like...fantastic and we were always laughing and having a great time together. He is an incredibly talented musician and we had a lot in common and most importantly, he has a total heart for God. For our first date, he took me on a trip to Disney World...yes. You read that correctly. We were gone for a week. It was amazing. I was smitten. He lives a few states away so I was doing some traveling back and forth and soon after our trip, the two of us worked together putting on my first solo concert. He was once again incredible. Total gentleman. Like, everything. Okay...long story short, he was out of town last week with his family and it has now been six days since he has called me. He's all about moving slowly and I respect that, but like, an email and a few tweets does not a courtship make. So...based on my past experiences, I'm gonna just count this one as a goner....ugh.
Additionally, I've been auditioning like crazy and not booking like crazy. Time is running out...well, if not time, my funds, and I am going to have to start thinking about some other options soon. All is not lost though. I have had some INCREDIBLE career experiences in the past few months, like total blessings, I just haven't booked anything that is more long-term and/or paying into my benefits. Make sense? So...we'll see what happens. Hopefully something will come through and I'll have some fun news on that front.
Hmmm...I had a dream that I was dating one of my gay besties last night...that was weird. lol.
...and...I think that's basically it. Oh wait! I signed my lease June 1st so now I am like a real bill-paying New Yorker.
So in summary, you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince and much like Miss Tiana...I'm going through it, but hopefully, in both my career and my love life, "I'm almost there!" Toodles!

The Dating Files: UPDATE
And the most crucial update from my six-week hiatus? Well..let's just say that I've been dating a wonderful man for the past six weeks and I'm happy. lol. Sorry, bloggies, but for now my lips are sealed!
Get it Straight!
So over the Easter weekend, I decided to get my ends trimmed. It had been a while and I was at home so I could go to my old stylist. This was also a great opportunity to do a length check. In addition to trimming my ends, I got my hair lightly pressed and got a new cut. SO.....What do you think!?
BEFORE:
AFTER:
We'll see how long this lasts. I like to work out, sweat, and not be concerned about my hair in the process. Plus, I am awful at wrapping my head at night. It's an art that I could never master, but alas. The good thing is that I can throw some water on my head and go right on back to being curly me!
Lol. Straight hair kisses!
Black History & Culture Showcase
This weekend, I went to Philadelphia's Annual Black History & Culture Showcase. I heard about the free event on the radio and decided to stop by. They had all kinds of display rooms including sports, military, culture, slavery, and inventions. Here's what was going on:
These men are members of the Montford Point Marines, the first African-American Marines in the country. They are being awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama...and they were sweet as pie!
I also learned a lot of inventions by Black-Americans that I never knew of. Here are some of the intentions that surprised me!
Great job Philadelphia on a fantastic showcase!
$1 Day in NYC!
Ever just want to hang out in the city and not go broke? Actually, here's a better question. Ever NOT just want to hang out in the city and not go broke? Goodness. I love me some Nueva York, but this place can really break the bank. A few weeks ago, I met up with my girls and we did New York...on a DOLLAR!
WHY? Because "A Dolla Make Me Holla Honey Boo Boo!!!"
You MUST watch this 6 year old beauty queen on TLC's Toddler's and Tiaras if you haven't already. She is FEARLESS and I love her for that!
The day started off with a slice of $1 pizza for lunch form 2 Bros Pizza at 36th and 8th. My fave when you are hungry and on a budget! It was met with mixed reviews, but honestly, those girls were trippin' because we've gone back since and they LOVED it!
Next, we decided to head over to Central Park to see what was going on. Here are some pretty flowers that we saw en route. Come on spring! I'm ready for you.
Obviously, reaching the park entrance was a great excuse for a quick photo shoot!
We saw a family of singers at the Bethesda Fountain and stopped to listen for a bit.
Then after much girl-talk, we headed back uptown to make dinner and watch one of my all time favorite movies on Netflix, TWO CAN PLAY THAT GAME!
Awesome girl day!
