Okay! So I am totally trying new nutritious foods to satisfy and expand my new vegan palate. Today I made my own brussel sprouts!
Brussel sprouts are never anything that I ate as a kid growing up, so I never really understood why they got such a bad rep. I'm going to try to keep an open mind, but let me just say that after today, I'm kind of thinking that the rep is well deserved! YUCK! My brussel sprouts tasted like straight up seasoned GRASS! lol. I managed to eat them all, but it was definitely a struggle.
Prep: I cut the sprouts in half, boiled them for 5 minutes, then roasted them in the oven on 350 degrees for 15 minutes. I seasoned them with seasoning salt and pepper...they were okay....kinda....but I am not giving up. I am going to look up some different ways of preparation and try again. Brussel Sprouts - I will not be defeated! Yummy!...ish.

Maybe try drizzling them with some olive oil? I know they can be hit or miss, and sometimes are more bitter than at other times. At their best they're delicious.
ReplyDeleteBrussels roasted with balsamic vinegar, olive oil and lemon = really delicious! I also like to roast asparagus that way. Or with just EVOO, a squeeze of lemon and a dash of salt. nom!
ReplyDeleteI peeled the individual leaves off the brussel sprouts and sauteed them with some grapeseed oil and pistachios - delicious! Now, I know you can't do nuts, but perhaps some onion, or the suggestion from Robyn sounds pretty good!
