Part 1: Facebook is the Devil

I woke up this morning and clicked "unfriend."

Strongholds are not cute.

I felt instantly freer and happy. Amen.

"We're not friends, we're just strangers with memories."

Almost doesn't count....but sometimes it makes you feel good!

So, I rarely talk about my acting career on this blog, which is kind of tragic in light of the title being "BLACtresses." Clearly, half of that name is about being an actress.

Since my show closed last week, I have been back on the audition grind. So far things have been going well and I have been getting really good responses after each of my auditions. In my still-young career, I've been really blessed in that I have had the opportunity to work at some INCREDIBLE venues, but I have yet to reach my ultimate goal of gracing the Broadway stage.

Yesterday, I had the chance to audition for a dream role of mine on Broadway. Long story short, I didn't get the job this time, but I found out that I was very very close and made enough of an impression, that the creative team wants to call me in again.

I really believe that this city is the place where my dreams are going to come true. I see it happen to people all around me daily and I know that I am close. I may not have gotten the job this time, but I know that it will happen for me one day. I'm encouraged, motivated, really happy, and hungry for more! Broadway, I'm coming for you!

Pointed in the right direction. I feel it!

My Vegan Plate: Brussel Sprouts

Okay! So I am totally trying new nutritious foods to satisfy and expand my new vegan palate. Today I made my own brussel sprouts!

Brussel sprouts are never anything that I ate as a kid growing up, so I never really understood why they got such a bad rep. I'm going to try to keep an open mind, but let me just say that after today, I'm kind of thinking that the rep is well deserved! YUCK! My brussel sprouts tasted like straight up seasoned GRASS! lol. I managed to eat them all, but it was definitely a struggle.

Prep: I cut the sprouts in half, boiled them for 5 minutes, then roasted them in the oven on 350 degrees for 15 minutes. I seasoned them with seasoning salt and pepper...they were okay....kinda....but I am not giving up. I am going to look up some different ways of preparation and try again. Brussel Sprouts - I will not be defeated! Yummy!...ish.

Is there nothing worse than seeing your exes happily dating someone else? I don't think so. Especially when you're not over them....Welcome to my Hot Friday night, bloggies.

"Why won't he call? I'm awesome!"

I feel like I have created a recipe for disaster. Take one Friday night, an oversized bar of chocolate, a marathon of my favorite weddings shows, and a facebook proclamation from an ex stating that he loves his new girlfriend. Mix it all together and there you have it. UGH! A pretty sad picture.

What do you think, guys? Should I block his Facebook profile or what? Do I spare myself the updates on his new love life? I mean, in all sincerity, I can't say that we are friends, especially since he stopped talking to me ever since he chose to date her over me. On the flip side, and this is so pathetically honest, in my mind I think, "but what if he tries to contact me one day in the future?" I know right? But this is how my mind works. I look at all of the "normal" people out there who can go from relationship to relationship and move on and be happy and blah blah blah, and I have to wonder what the heck is wrong with me? Why can't I do that? Why can't I find happiness elsewhere? Why is this one person so unshakable?

At what point do you give up on the dream that you and your ex will somehow have a happily ever after?

How do you truly move on (vs. distracting and deluding yourself) even when you don't want to?
When is the time to de-friend your ex on Facebook?

Ugh....I don't know guys. This is a tough one.  What do you think?

The Dating Files: Online Fail!

So, as you all know, I am trying out the online dating thing. It's kind of a struggle sometimes to not delete all of my profiles, but if I did, I wouldn't be able to tell you stories like this!

Two nights ago, I got a message from some guy named Bryan introducing himself. It was nice and simple, but I was tired and figured that I would get back to him later. I guess he saw that I read his message and didn't respond right away. Here is the message that I got from him tonight....with no prompting from me. Enjoy! lol

why are you even on here if your not really trying

Oh my gunquit! I miss blogging so much. Things got a bit hectic because I closed my show this past week. Now, I am officially unemployed. Sad face. It's kinda just the way this thing roles. I've been filling my time with auditioning and kind of just regrouping to get ready for the upcoming audition season. On the flip side of being unemployed, I should have a lot more time for blogging!

Today, I wanted to talk about a recent decision I made. I've decided to fully embrace clean eating and go VEGAN! Woo-hoo! I've been pescatarian for a few years now, but I think it's time to go hard or go home. I ate so much junk over the holidays (who didn't?) that I actually started feeling pretty gross. Yuck! Plus, like I've said, in this business, medium-size is not where it's at. Time for a new and vegan smaller me. I've already discovered some new eats that I love (like, unsweetened and unsulfured dried mango slices as dessert) and a few that I don't (roasted snacks - uh, no)! Either way, it's been fun and I am totally loving it. Trader Joe's is my new hot spot.

Tonight's dinner thankfully proved to be a successful experiement. I boiled a potato, sauteed mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, broccoli, and back beans and wham! bam! a fierce vegan dinner was created. Check it out. Delish!

HAPPY NEW YEAR BLOGGIES!

I am so excited to usher 2012 in. I spent the night with my roomie, gusband, and his man, cooking dinner, mixing drinks, belting show tunes, and watching the ball drop! I chose to wear my mom's old 80s sparkle top that she was planning on giving away, my black feather hat and some long dangle silver earrings. Enjoy!
